Marketing Hackathon

Build Better on Stellar

Location: Mexico CityYear: 2024Audience: Builders, marketers, and ecosystem partnersPartner: Stellar Development Foundation

The challenge

Stellar needed more than another hackathon weekend. The ecosystem had builders, but it needed marketers who could tell their projects' stories, and it needed a short timeline activation that could ride the energy of an existing ecosystem moment instead of competing with it.

The strategy

We designed a marketing hackathon, not a coding one. Three tracks gave teams a clear lane: growth strategy, content and storytelling, and go-to-market design. We paired the format with local community partners already trusted in the Mexico City ecosystem, so registration felt like an invitation from a friend, not a cold announcement.

The experience

Builders and marketers worked side by side over a single, focused weekend. Workshops ran in the morning, working sessions in the afternoon, and a demo night closed things out with real feedback from ecosystem judges instead of a generic pitch competition. Every detail, from the track naming to the judging rubric, was built to keep momentum visible in real time.

The outcome

  • 59 people registered across the three tracks
  • 27 submissions delivered by demo night
  • Community partners extended the format into their own local activations

Why it worked

The hackathon worked because it was anchored to something already happening, not invented in a vacuum. Clear tracks gave people permission to show up without being a smart contract engineer, and the judging structure made the output feel useful long after the weekend ended.

Signal: The room moved because the challenge was clear, the community was ready, and the format gave people something to make.
